DESCRIPTION
Step into the sacred city of the ancient Macedonians with this 3hour guided tour of Dion. Begin at the Archaeological Park, where temples, sanctuaries, and public buildings reveal the grandeur of this historic site. Pause for a traditional coffeeaccompanied by a koularaki (a small biscuit that perfectly complements the flavor of Greek coffee) before continuing to the Archaeological Museum, home to remarkable finds from the area.
The tour concludes at the Archaeotheke (the Archaeological gallery), when open, where you will admire the celebrated mosaic depicting the triumphal Epiphany of god Dionysus.
Dion was not only a place of worship but also a political and cultural center. As the third most important city of the Macedonian kingdom, after Aigai and Pella, it played a vital role in religious ceremonies, military celebrations, and the spread of Hellenistic culture. Its sanctuaries dedicated to Olympian gods made Dion a spiritual heart of Macedonia, while its monuments and artifacts continue to testify to its significance in antiquity.
